DILEMMA:SAVE CHILDHOOD OR SAVE ENVIRONMENT

DILEMMA:SAVE CHILDHOOD OR SAVE ENVIRONMENT

I wanted to celebrate Diwali too, like I celebrate any other festival. But, from last 3-4 years I am asked not to celebrate diwali and holi the way I used to celebrate during my childhood. I learnt from various media platforms that if I fire crackers on diwali I would be indirectly causing air pollution. Likewise, during holi I am asked to play dry holi as playing holi with water will cause scarcity of water.

The adult in me understands the real situation and that the climatic conditions of today demands me to be aware of it. But the problem is that, the child in me totally refuses to understand what today's time demand.

The child in me wants to burn crackers from Dusherra till Bhai Dooj and want to play holi by throwing water balloons on friends.

They ask me to have a noise-less diwali and fire-less diwali. They ask me to save water and have dry holi. I consider myself lucky enough because I'd enjoyed these two festivals, in a way that are supposed to be celebrated.

I fear this one question to get answered. Will mine, be the last generation who'd celebrated these festivals in a proper manner.

Here, I make a sincere request to all who are reading this post to ask the above question thyself. Now whatever answer you get from your  inner conscience, try to act accordingly.

Try to stay conscious and aware during other days too (days other than diwali and holi). Save water on other days too. Let me sum up few habits on how we can contribute to save environment without much efforts. These are:

1. Carry easy fold cloth bag every time in your hand bag or purse.

This will help you in avoiding use of plastic bags often used to fetch vegetables or other groceries from market.

2. Always carry your own water bottle.

Make it a practice that you carry your own water bottle wherever you go. Copper bottles are now easily available and is beneficial for health too.

3. Avoid using plastic straw.

Reusable steel straws are now easily available. Try to carry one always in your purse or bag.

4. Plant aloe-vera, tulsi (holy basil) and ajwain (carom seed) plants in your home.

5. Use RO waste water for washing vegetables, mopping floor, etc.

6.Replace plastic food storage containers in kitchen with steel containers.

7. Don't throw plastic on road. And don't litter, in fact. Be a good citizen

8. Avoid plastic disposables.

9. Avoid tissue paper.

10. Use bio degradable sanitary napkins.

These are few from my side.

Let's not burden government to take care of environment. Let us all make this a habit to work for betterment and not bitterment. These are few effortless habits on how we, on our own and without our government to force any law on us, can save environment.

Spread this message by reposting this post. Add more effortless habits in comment section, you think one can imbibe in daily routine.
